Dungeon Crawler X Octopussy

Schauspiel Dortmund, LARP, Theater
Anmeldung nötig

Two interactive performances that combine theater, game mechanics, and urban landscape.

This event takes place as a “double bill” and builds on each other. Starting as a Dungeon Crawler in the Westentor underground parking garage, it culminates in the Octopussy performance on the Studiobühne of Schauspiel Dortmund.

Dungeon Crawler

The “Dungeon Crawlers”, an ancient guild for exploring hidden underworlds, have crash-landed in the Westentor underground parking garage.
To support the Octopussy special team, they had traveled to Dortmund through a portal. Before they can bring their help and their machines to the Schauspielhaus, they must first overcome the dangers of the underground car dungeon.

“Dungeon Crawler – Automobil Untergrund” is a live-action role-playing game in an urban space. Visitors* can take on roles in a science-fantasy story and performers* act as “transmissional agents” who wander between the worlds and interweave the festival’s venues and formats.
The Crawlers are among you! Through quests, storytelling and visual interventions, they lead deep into the hidden spaces of your city. In a narrative about tech-cult and alternate-reality, you take part in the playful reinterpretation of the urban space.

Performance and Divising: Carl Brandi, Pau Holtkamp, Aldina Okeric and Gianluca Piscopo.
Automobiles: Pau Holtkamp
Game developer: Carl Brandi
Costume and stage: Pau Holtkamp and Carl Brandi

“Dungeon Crawler – Automobil Untergrund” is funded by the project funding performing arts of the Kulturbüro Dortmund.

Octopussy

The Octopussy is a long-forgotten place — a promising tale of a better world. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Or how did that go again?

The pirate Ann revels in memories of her old days at sea and a place where a new world begins. No time to dream! Ann’s beloved Octopussy is in danger! All she needs is the right special team to restore balance in the Octopussy. Will you dare to venture on this journey into the depths of the octopus?

Themes such as toxic masculinity, sexualized violence & sexism are dealt with in this interactive piece in the form of an escape room.

Juliette Roussennac (she/her), born in Paris in 1996, is a French actress and director.
In 2017, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Theater Studies at the Sorbonne-Nouvelle.
During this time, she already worked as a performer with Tino Sehgal at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris (»This Progress«, Festival d’Automne 2016).
Since 2019, she has been an actress with the prison theater »aufBruch«. The independent theater project performs in various prisons in the Berlin area and promotes cultural exchange between urban society and prisoners.
In 2024, she completed her Physical Theater studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts. There, she came to know and love the power of her body. In her artistic work, Juliette Roussennac moves between clowning, storytelling, and singing.

Pau Holtkamp works as an artist in the fields of performance, stage design, and costume design.
Carl Brandi (*1991) is a performance artist and role-playing game developer. Since graduating from the Düsseldorf Art Academy (2021), he has been working on a continuous mythology that comes to life in games, images, and narratives. Together with other artists and participants in his performances, Brandi discovers a fluid parallel world that is changed and further developed by the playful decisions of all participants. Game effectiveness and shared, transformative storytelling form the core of Brandi’s performative formats and methods.
Playgrounds for this growing story have included: The Hangar (BCN/ES), K21 Kunstsammlung NRW (DUS/GER),
Futur3 Festival (KI/GER), Künstlerhaus Dortmund (DO/GER) and Museum Kunstpalast (DUS/GER)

The arc gallery sees itself as an experimental bridge between art, nightlife, and digital arts. A field of tension is created in the vibrant club rooms, in which individual perception and collective experience intermesh. Digital arts open up new perspectives on subjectivity and community, on day and night, on established knowledge and unfinished experiments. In this way, the arc gallery becomes a space that connects opposites, makes connections visible, and challenges artistic expression as much as it enduringly supports it. The arc gallery is supported by the association exe.
