“Me, Myself & My Avatars: It takes 2 + Ponyboy” continues the work of “Me, Myself & My Avatars (or remapping the homunculus)” and expands it with two additional avatars that deviate even more significantly from human form and habits. While the first version confronted individual players with unusual body models, such as multi-limbed or multiple bodies, the new figures open up collective spaces for experience. Ponyboy has the body of a horse but the face of a human. He is controlled contradictorily: on all fours like an animal, yet also upright in bipedal mode. This creates a hybrid gaming sensation that challenges common perceptions of body and movement. “It takes 2” takes this a step further: here, two players share the same virtual body. Only through coordination and synchronization can they move the avatar and shape the environment. This interplay opens a dialogue about control, trust, and the dissolution of clear boundaries between self and other. With its experimental approach, the work transforms Virtual Reality into a laboratory for shared corporeality.
