How is Dortmund’s urban space designed for non-human life? Which species live alongside us – and how could the city become more inviting for them, or perhaps not? These questions are at the heart of the ‘walkshop’ around the Dortmunder U. Together, we will explore the surroundings as a shared ecosystem. In small groups, participants will use digital tools to collect data: photos, videos, sound recordings, interviews, and observations of urban wildlife and their habitats. Based on this, a ‘data story’ will emerge – a narrative that combines hard facts such as sightings, locations, or sounds with subjective impressions, emotions, and ecological reflections. The walkshop invites you to rethink the city as a shared habitat and to use digital narrative forms to make visible the perspectives of more-than-human life.

Bird’s-eye View on Dortmund – Walkshop
A participatory city walk exploring urban biodiversity and digital storytelling.
Creative Coding Utrecht (CCU) is a non-profit platform for digital creativity based in Utrecht. We support artistic research, talent development, and interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of art, technology, and society. Our activities range from public programs and labs to residencies and educational projects – always rooted in experimentation, accessibility, and community building. As a Zoöp (zoop.earth), CCU is committed to integrating more-than-human perspectives into creative practice. This research explores how artistic and technological tools can help us perceive, connect with, and care for the living world – not only thematically, but also structurally, in the ways we create and collaborate.
