Me, Myself & My Avatars: it Takes 2 + Ponyboy
A VR Multiplayer Experience: “Me, Myself & My Avatars: It takes 2 + Ponyboy” continues the work “Me, Myself & My Avatars (or remapping the homunculus)” and expands it with two more avatars that deviate even more from human form and habit. While the first version confronted individual players with unusual body models such as multi-limbed or multiple bodies, the new figures open up collective spaces for experience. Ponyboy has the body of a horse, but the face of a human. It is controlled in contradictory ways: on the one hand, on all fours like an animal, and on the other hand, upright in biped mode. This creates a hybrid gaming experience that challenges common notions of body and movement. “It takes 2” goes one step further: here, two players share one and the same virtual body. Only through agreements and synchronization is it possible to move the avatar and shape the environment. This interaction opens up a dialogue about control, trust, and the dissolution of clear boundaries between self and other. With its experimental approach, the work transforms virtual reality into a laboratory for shared physicality.
